Projects and Project Labs are where capability becomes work. Learners frame a problem, make decisions, create something meaningful, test it, improve it and leave with evidence of what they can actually do.
A Project Lab is a structured environment for applying capability to a meaningful problem, challenge or opportunity. The output matters — but so does the thinking, iteration and learning behind it.
The project begins with a question, need, opportunity or challenge rather than a predetermined answer.
Learners choose approaches, tools, assumptions and trade-offs and become accountable for the work they create.
Testing, critique, failure, revision and improvement are treated as legitimate parts of building capability.
A prototype, analysis, system, strategy, design, model, portfolio or other output can demonstrate applied capability.
Learners should be able to explain what they built, why they built it, what changed and what they would do next.
A project journey should give learners enough structure to move forward without removing the decisions that make the work theirs.
Clarify the problem, users, context, constraints, assumptions and desired outcome.
Research, analyse, compare approaches and identify the most useful path forward.
Develop the artefact, model, prototype, analysis, strategy or working solution.
Evaluate assumptions, gather feedback, test performance and identify what needs to improve.
Demonstrate the outcome, explain the decisions and reflect on capability gained.
Project Labs can exist across every Academy domain. The artefact should fit the capability and context rather than forcing every learner into the same project shape.
Build an application, data product, AI solution, digital service, technical component or working prototype.
Investigate a dataset, create a model, engineer a pipeline, evaluate a system or produce decision evidence.
Develop a business case, operating model, market analysis, financial model, venture concept or growth strategy.
Design an intervention, change plan, operating improvement, leadership response or organisational solution.
Create a learning intervention, communication artefact, research output, facilitation experience or capability solution.
Combine capabilities from multiple disciplines to address a complex, real-world problem.
Astraal Project Labs provide enough scaffolding for meaningful progress while preserving the decisions, experimentation and ownership that make project-based learning valuable.
It is not simply a place to submit a final project. The architecture should make the process of inquiry, making, testing and improvement visible.
A project should leave something behind that can travel beyond the classroom — a demonstration of capability that can support reflection, credentials, portfolios, professional conversations or future opportunities.
The thing that was created: system, analysis, design, strategy, prototype, model, intervention or other output.
Show the work in action or explain how it performs against the intended purpose.
Make important choices, assumptions, trade-offs and revisions visible.
Explain what was learned, what changed and what capability still needs development.
Describe the problem, role, contribution and outcome so the evidence can be understood outside the original learning environment.
Build experiences connect the Academy's learning layer with credentials, professional development and the wider opportunity ecosystem.
Develop the concepts, methods and capabilities needed to build.
Apply capability to a meaningful problem and create an artefact.
Test capability against defined constraints and real questions.
Connect achievement and evidence to appropriate recognition.
Make selected work visible as capability evidence.
Carry capability into work, careers and further learning.
Project-based learning works best when the challenge, resources, expectations and evidence are designed responsibly. Astraal labs should protect learner agency while making standards, attribution, responsible technology use and assessment expectations clear.
Explore applied learning across the Academy, or work with Astraal to design a Project Lab around a capability, challenge or organisational need.
