Purpose before content.
Start with what participants should understand, decide, create, practise or change — then select the content required.
Focused learning experiences designed around a capability, question, challenge or emerging idea — where participants learn, practise, create and apply.
Applied Workshop is one of the Academy's learning formats. It is independent of domain, discipline, capability family, level, audience and delivery mode. The same workshop logic can therefore be used for AI, data, finance, leadership, human capability or an emerging field.
The format is selected when concentration, interaction and immediate application add more value than passive content consumption.
Start with what participants should understand, decide, create, practise or change — then select the content required.
Discussion, demonstration, simulation, lab work, critique and guided practice make the learner part of the experience.
A workshop can produce an artefact, analysis, model, decision, prototype, plan or other observable evidence of application.
Activities can be shaped around the realities of learners, professionals, executives, institutions, teams or organisations.
Participants examine assumptions, feedback, limitations and what the experience changes in their understanding or practice.
The experience closes by identifying where the capability will be used next — in learning, work, projects or further development.
Astraal workshop design works backwards from the intended capability. Facilitation, content, activity, tools, evidence and reflection are assembled around that purpose.
What are we trying to understand, solve, create, practise or change?
Who is learning, and where will the capability be used?
What must participants actually do to encounter and work with the capability?
What observable work demonstrates application or progress?
How will the participant carry the capability into the next context?
The exact activities change with the subject. The learning progression remains deliberate.
Clarify the question, purpose and intended outcome.
Encounter the concepts, examples and perspectives required.
Use methods, tools, exercises, simulations or guided tasks.
Turn learning into an artefact, decision, model, plan or solution.
Surface assumptions, feedback, limitations and improvements.
Identify the next context in which the capability will be used.
Applied Workshops do not replace the Academy's other formats. They connect with them at different points in a capability journey.
Move into a structured capability journey when broader or deeper development is required.
Extend workshop learning into sustained creation, experimentation and applied work.
Apply capability against authentic problems, constraints and collaborative contexts.
Use evidence when capability needs to be demonstrated or verified.
Connect demonstrated capability to an appropriate credential pathway where applicable.
Carry capability evidence into further learning, projects, work and career development.
Applied Workshop is the format. Other Academy dimensions determine how a particular workshop is positioned and delivered.
Audience and pathway can vary without changing the workshop format.
Delivery is selected according to the experience, participants and context.
