Grow together.
Internal Cohort Fellowships are selective, time-bound Academy experiences where a small group of learners works together around a shared theme, challenge, capability or contribution — with deeper mentorship, peer exchange and responsibility than a conventional programme.
A fellowship is not simply a longer course. It creates a community of practice in which learners are expected to contribute, challenge one another, produce meaningful work and leave something useful behind.
Not another
course.
Internal Cohort Fellowships occupy a different place in the Academy. Entry can be selective, the cohort remains intentionally small, and the experience is built around depth, contribution and shared progression.
Earned entry
Participation can be based on readiness, demonstrated interest, prior evidence or a defined selection process.
Sustained inquiry
The cohort stays with a theme long enough to move beyond introductory understanding into meaningful practice.
Peer intelligence
Learners learn from one another through critique, collaboration, dialogue and shared problem-solving.
Leave something behind
The fellowship produces a contribution, artefact, insight, resource or body of work with value beyond attendance.
What makes it
a fellowship?
The distinction is intentional. A fellowship creates a relationship between selection, sustained engagement, mentorship, peer community and contribution. The learner is both recipient and participant in the intellectual or practical life of the cohort.
A cohort with a purpose.
People come together because they share a meaningful learning or contribution agenda. The cohort becomes part of the learning architecture, not merely the scheduling mechanism.
A commitment with an outcome.
The experience has a defined period, expectations and a tangible endpoint — such as a research output, prototype, field contribution, public showcase, community resource or internal innovation.
The fellowship
journey.
A strong fellowship evolves from selection into belonging, inquiry, contribution and reflection. The exact format can vary, but the progression should remain visible.
Discover
Understand the fellowship theme, purpose, expectations and contribution agenda.
Enter
Complete selection, onboarding and an initial capability or interest baseline.
Connect
Build trust, shared language and working relationships across the cohort.
Explore
Investigate questions, methods, perspectives and relevant evidence deeply.
Contribute
Collaboratively or individually create work that advances the fellowship agenda.
Show
Present, defend, publish, demonstrate or otherwise share the contribution.
Carry Forward
Reflect, document evidence and define the next stage of capability or contribution.
Different fellowship
formats.
Internal fellowships can serve different Academy purposes. What connects them is the combination of cohort, depth, mentorship and contribution.
Research Fellowship
A cohort investigates a question or emerging domain and produces a structured research contribution.
Innovation Fellowship
Learners explore a challenge, test ideas and develop prototypes, concepts or recommendations.
Leadership Fellowship
A sustained experience focused on judgement, influence, collaboration and leading meaningful initiatives.
Community Fellowship
Learners work around a social, educational, cultural or sustainability agenda with a tangible contribution.
Emerging Futures Fellowship
A forward-looking cohort explores emerging technologies, disciplines or societal shifts and their implications.
Academy Contributor Fellowship
Learners contribute to the Academy itself through content, peer learning, experiments, resources or community initiatives.
The people who
make the cohort.
The fellowship works when responsibilities are clear. Mentors create depth, fellows create the contribution, and the Academy protects the quality and integrity of the experience.
Participate deeply.
Prepare, contribute, collaborate, produce work, support peers and take responsibility for the quality of the fellowship experience.
Guide depth.
Challenge thinking, introduce perspective, provide feedback and help fellows move from exploration toward meaningful contribution.
Hold the community.
Coordinate rhythm, participation, communication, milestones and the practical conditions required for the cohort to thrive.
Protect the standard.
Maintain purpose, selection integrity, safeguarding, documentation, evaluation and alignment with Academy principles.
What becomes
fellowship evidence?
Attendance is not the evidence of a fellowship. The record should make visible the fellow's contribution, growth, collaboration and substantive work.
Fellowship Charter
The theme, purpose, expectations, operating model and contribution agenda.
Individual Intent
The fellow's questions, goals, starting point and intended contribution.
Working Record
Research notes, experiments, meetings, iterations, critiques and decisions.
Contribution
The substantive output created by the fellow individually or within the cohort.
Peer Evidence
Observable collaboration, peer contribution, feedback and community participation.
Reflection
What changed in the fellow's capability, perspective, network and future direction.
A fellowship should
feel like a community.
The cohort needs a deliberate operating rhythm. A shared theme alone does not create a fellowship; interaction, critique, contribution and reflection have to be designed into the experience.
Emerging Intelligence Fellowship
A 10–12 week internal cohort exploring a defined emerging-intelligence theme through expert sessions, reading, peer studios, experiments and a collective contribution.
Five moments
that matter.
Milestones create enough structure to maintain momentum without turning a fellowship into a conventional classroom timetable.
Entry
Selection, expectations and purpose are understood before the cohort begins.
Alignment
Each fellow establishes a meaningful question, role or contribution direction.
Midpoint
Progress and participation are reviewed; direction can be challenged and refined.
Contribution
The substantive work is brought together, reviewed and prepared for demonstration.
Continuation
Evidence is captured and fellows define the next stage of practice or contribution.
Depth needs
good stewardship.
Selective cohort experiences need clear standards around access, participation, attribution, contribution and respectful peer interaction.
Selection
Use transparent criteria appropriate to the fellowship's purpose rather than prestige alone.
Belonging
Create a respectful environment where diverse perspectives can be expressed and challenged constructively.
Attribution
Make individual and collective contribution visible and acknowledge sources and collaborators.
Closure
End with evidence, reflection and a clear next step rather than simply issuing a participation certificate.
Where can a
fellowship lead?
The fellowship is a deepening experience inside the BUILD ecosystem. Its evidence can support progression into more immersive practice and visible contribution.
Residencies
Move from cohort exploration into sustained immersion around a domain, institution or problem.
Internships
Carry demonstrated collaboration and contribution into supervised professional experience.
Advanced Projects
Use fellowship work as the foundation for a deeper capstone, industry simulation or applied initiative.
Portfolio Builder
Turn fellowship outputs, peer evidence and reflections into a coherent capability story.

Internal Cohort Fellowships create the conditions for a small group of learners to explore deeply, challenge one another and produce something that matters.
